Felt Support Eaves Protector
The Eaves Protector is designed predominately for replacement of old perished
felt at eaves level caused by the sagging and subsequent ‘ponding’ of water. The
Eaves protector should be pushed under existing felt in refurbishment
situations. Alternatively in new build situations felt should be dressed over
the tray. The support tray should be positioned on top of the fascia boards and
secured to the roof trusses. Joints should be overlapped by minimum of 150mm.
Eaves Protection Boards
The Eaves Protection Board (EPS), or Felt Support Tray, has been
designed to provide a long-term solution to the problems associated with
eaves decay under the roof, including the degradation of felt and the
secondary rotting of rafter timbers and roof structures.
Also know as the
Felt Support Tray, this product is now widely used
by roofing contractors along with replacement UPVC fascia installers at
eaves level (as detailed in the image below).
Why do I need Felt Support Trays
All felt should dress down into the guttering, so any rain that gets
past the tiles runs down the top of the felt and drains into the
guttering away from the building.
Older felt is not UV stable so will rot where the felt is exposed to
the sun and break down its structure allowing water to penetrate behind
the fascia boards and possibly causing damage to the rafters and any
timber fascias.
Eaves protectors must be installed with the felt running over the top
of them. We would recommend the eaves protector is combined with a Over
fascia Vent unless you already have a well ventilated roof - most roofs
are not well ventilated. Ideally ridge venting or tile vents would also
be installed.
The
eaves protector or felt support tray is a low cost solution to
dripping felt or for felt that as rotted in time, and can eliminate
problems in later years. We recommend that when ever replacing fascia
boards that the eaves protection system is put in place.
